Cover of the Month
A great cover presented by Jerry Piotrowski. A super piece of postal history.
Crash Cover
This aerogramme mailed December 23 1954 from North Yorkshire, England to Nova Scotia, Canada was aboard a B.O.A.C. Stratocruiser that crashed December 25 1954 at Prestwick, Scotland. All of the salvageable mail on board received official handstamps. The aerogramme received a two line handstamp SALVAGED MAIL/PRESTWICK 25-12-54.
Since the item was badly charred it was then forwarded to the addressee in a brown envelope called an “ambulance cover” with a boxed three-line handstamp SALVAGED MAIL/AIRCRAFT CRASH/PRESTWICK 25-12-54 handstamp.
