On April 26, 1928, Pilot Tommy Stephens made a perfect landing at a point opposite the Moosehide Bluff in Dawson. Delayed at Dawson due to rain, sleet
and fog, The Queen of the Yukon arrived at Mayo on May 1. The plane made trips to Keno City and to Lansing Creek before arriving at Whitehorse on May 5, 1928.
When the Queen was making a second attempt to land at Whitehorse, it hit an air pocket casuing the wing to strike a tree and the plane flipped over.
The resulting crash caused a suspension of service until early December.
This is the second known piece of mail recovered froom the crash of the Queen and the only known triple rated cover.
A nice piece of postal history!
