This cover was mailed from Hong Kong to the former French colony of Middle Congo (a stamp-issuing entity from 1907 – 1933). In 1934 this territory
became French Equatorial Africa.
December 18, 1931 was the posting date of this letter to a numbered Chinese worker, notated as “travailleur Chinois” in the address. This was most
likely a miner, as metals and diamond mining are among the mainstays of industry in the Congo.
A pair of KGV 10c definitives from the 1921 issue pays the rate of $0.20 for the 1st ounce by surface to “All other countries” in the April 1, 1931
increased rate table. A partial receiver postmark on the reverse indicates arrival at Pointe Noire on February 28, 1932. Receiver markings are highly
valued, as they prove handling at the destination post office.
A very nice and unique cover! Thanks Ingo!
